Notes:
This CD for the first time presents the integral recording of all four Sperger sonata-duos for Viennese contrabasso and viola in the original setting. Although many bassist will remember them in the arrangement for modern bass and piano, in this CD we can finally hear these sonatas as they were originally conceived. Radoslav Sasina, a true pioneer of Viennese repertoire, has brought us yet another significant recording and together with his viola partner Milos Valent should be congratulated on this exclusive recording.

Notes:
This CD offers a truly unique glimpse in the repertoire of the pre classical and classical Vienna, and actually reconstructs the period sound in way that many other productions simply can not match. Not only is the setup of all the instruments authentic, but the recording was made at the very church in Hainburg where Haydn started his music path as a child. The CD itself is not focused on Viennese Bass, yet offers an excellent view of what particular literature would have a real period Viennese bassist played on an average day in the 18th century Vienna! Moreover, the scoring on this recording is also very authentic in a sense that it does not feature a violoncello - a fact often corroborated in the parts of many period Viennese compositions. Congratulations to Florian on such a fine work and best wishes for many more of such gems in the future.

CD review: Bass World, vol. 29, no. 2, 2005 [ISB]
Notes:
This CD is very unique in the approach to the period literature and performance. It actually presents a period repertoire written for the other instruments arranged in a way to present what the pre-Dittersdorf concerti might have sounded - if written by the actual period composers for the original 5 string Viennese violone. Every effort has been made by Lars Baunkilde and his ensemble colleagues to recreate the authentic period tone color and from this perspective this CD offers a truly wonderful voyage to the soundscape of the past. This is also the first modern recording on the gut strings that presents a true Eb variant of Viennese tuning. Congratulations to Lars and the Frederiksstaden ensemble colleagues on this brave attempt to show us how the real heritage of our instrument might have sounded!

Record Label - Number: CREC-audio 02/022 - Paris : Grand Plateau d'Orchestre du CNSMDP (20021014)
Notes:
This is the first modern recording of Sperger's concerto in the original Viennese tuning with the accompaniment of an orchestra. The recording features not only a masterful solo performance by Petru Iuga but also the authentic "solo-tutti" interchange in the orchestra accompaniment, where the smaller ensemble is used for the "solo" sections. In that respect this CD can serve as a true model on how Sperger concertos should be interpreted.

The CD was produced for promotional purposes by the Paris Conservatoire CD production service through the help of the Foundation Meyer (Geneva) and under the supervision of conservatory Professor Jean-Paul Celea. Congratulations to Petru and his mentor on this wonderful project and best wishes for even more of Sperger concerto performances!
