| Notes: | This is the first modern edition of Mozart's "Per questa bella mano" suitable for the execution on the Viennese tuning. The solo bass part is written in C major, and is intended for bassits who are not accustomed to the original Viennese tuning notation. This part is fingered in the normal orchestra tuning, where every finger and string are indicated. The instrument should be tuned in the D Viennese setup for this fingering however, and the written pitches will not correspond to the actual pitches executed. This is a good edition for bassists who do not know the original notation system, but would still like to try the true Viennese tuning. For the bassists who do know how to read the original Viennese treble clef notation, there is the solo bass line in the piano score, which is preserved in the original. This line is not as comfortable to use as would the separate part be, but can still be useful for the learning and performance purposes. Given the limited number of players who can read the original notation, it is economically still not viable to print the separate original bass parts. This edition is also suitable for the performance in the solo tuning. |
